I stayed there as backpacker from January 8 to January 9, 2013 with an other traveller in a twin room (number 17). We arrived by train in the evening, so we had to stay one night till the border crossing opened again. I think room 17 it is one of the cheapest rooms in the Market Motel. Here is my review:

Motel facilities:

• Internet: Wi-Fi is in the restaurant and some rooms available.
  The speed of the internet connection is in the Market Motel, compared to other hostels or hotels in Thailand, average. They charge you 20 Baht per hour for using the internet.
• I had lunch and breakfast there and enjoyed the food.
• There is a swimming pool in the hotel.
• The staff at the reception are very friendly.

Market Motel in Aranyaprathet (in a used condition)

Room-facilities:

In my twin room I found the following facilities:

• You can lock the door with a key.
• A refrigerator is in the room.
• There is a window in the room and it can be opened.
• There is a net against mosquitos in front of the window.
• Air condition and fan are available. We used only the fan.
• Smoking is in the room not allowed – Non smoker room.
• There is a TV-set with big screen.
• In the room it was very quiet. You can leave the window open during the night.
• They kept the room clean – for the cheap price it was OK.

Bathroom:

• The bathroom is located in the room.
• There is a shower.
• Hot water worked well.
• Toilet paper, soap and towel are provided.

Location of the Market Motel:

• To the train station it’s about two kilometers. A tuk tuk driver brought us to the motel. To the border crossing Thailand – Cambodia it’s about seven kilometers, we went there also by tuk tuk.
• There are some foodstalls, shops and convenience stores close to the Market Motel.

Summary

I enjoyed the stay at the Market Motel in Aranyaprathet. I stayed there only one night waiting till the border crossing is possible. I felt welcome and safe there.

• Internet: Wi-Fi is available in all areas of the hostel, also in the rooms. The speed of the internet connection is, compared to other hostels in Thailand, average. The speed depends on how many other guests use the internet.
• There is a big DVD-Room, where you can chill out and watch a movie.
• The Lub D Hostel offers tours, bus tickets and tourist information.
• You can also join free tours e.g. a city stroll, going out for partying, etc.
• There is a bar in the hostel where you can order breakfast, snacks and drinks.
• There is a washing machine in the hostel, where you can do your laundry. You can use it with two 10 baht coins. The dryer also works with coins. They offer washing powder at the reception desk. I used this service, everything worked well.
• Smoking is in the Lub D Hostel not allowed. There is a place at the entrance where you can smoke.
• There is a big area for chill out and get in contact with other guests.
• Check-out time is 12 AM.
• The staff at the reception are very friendly and helpful.

In my twin room (room 3012) I found the following facilities:

• You can lock the door with a key-card. You use the key-card also for the power supply.
• In the room is a desk for working and there are also boards for your clothes and belongings.
• There is a window in the room, it cannot be opened.
• Air condition and ventilation system are available, both worked very well. I used the aircon only for a short time, the fan was most time enough.
• Smoking is in the room not allowed – Non smoker room.
• There is a safe in the room.
• In the room it was quiet even though there are the stairs in front of it. I sleeped very well.
• They keep the rooms really clean, change towels and make your bed every day.

Bathroom:

• The bathroom is located on the same floor, you share it with other guests.
• There is a shower.
• Hot water worked well.
• Toilet paper, soap and towel are provided.

Location of the Lub D Hostel:

• The Skytrain station Chong Nonsi is close to the hostel. To the Skytrain station it’s about 10 minute’s walk. From there you reach the train station (change lines at Sala Daeng) and the Airport Express (change lines at Siam and Phaya Thai) easily.
• There are always Tuk-Tuks in front of the hostel.
• Directions and maps shown on Hostelbookers are right. It is pretty easy to find the hostel in Bangkok first time.
• There are some food stalls and streetfood-restaurants with cheap food close to the hostel. One is directly on the opposite where you get some Thai and Chinese food. It tastes well – I really like the soups and the duck.
• Walk down the street, there you will find a big variety of bars and restaurants. When you turn left at the main street after a few minutes’ walk you reach Patpong.

Summary

I enjoyed the stay in Lub D Hostel in Bangkok Silom. It’s a really good place to get in touch with other backpackers and to make new friends. I’ve met a lot of new people there and got in contact with them.

The Lub D Hostel is also a really good place for having fun. It’s one of the best hostels I have ever stayed in Thailand. I felt really welcome and safe there.

It is one of the cheapest hotels for a single traveller I could find in Dubai. I stayed there as backpacker from December 31, 2012 to January 3, 2013 in a double room (used as single room). Here is my review:

Hotel facilities:

• Internet: Wi-Fi is in the room and most parts of the hotel available.
  I didn’t use it, because they charge 15 DHS per hour or 40 DHS for four hours for the internet. As shown on the login-page the speed is maximum 15 kB/second. If it’s true, that’s pretty slow. Close to the hotel there are Starbucks and an other Coffeeshop, where you can use wifi for free.
• Breakfast is not included.
• There are a restaurant in the first floor and two bars in the hotel. They offer an international “all you can eat” buffet with food from India, Asia, Europe and Arab countries for lunch and dinner every day. I tried it, with 30 DHS it was cheap, but the taste of the food was not really good.
• Check-out time is 12 AM.
• The staff at the reception are friendly.
• The restaurant, in the bar and room service offer also alcohol. The price for a Budweiser beer (0,33 l) ist 18 Dirham.

Double room 406 in Panorama Deira Hotel in Dubai

Room-facilities:

In my double room I found the following facilities:

• You can lock the door with a key and a stop-lock.
• In the room is a desk for working.
• There is a refrigerator in the room, but it was empty.
• There is a window in the room and it can be opened a bit.
• Air condition worked well but I am not sure where I can regulate it.
• Smoking is in the room not allowed – Non smoker room.
• TV-set with normal screen and a lot of TV-programs in good quality.
  Among others I found TV-programms in English, and Arab language.
• In the room it was a bit noisy, because the street is very busy. You can’t leave the window open during the night. Unfortunately you can also hear the beats from the music in the bars up to the room in the 4th floor. When someone opened the door to the neighbour room I felt like they come into my room. So there was unfortunately a lot of noise and I didn’t sleep very well.
• They offer a safe deposit box at the reception
• They keep the rooms clean, change towels and make your bed every day.

Bathroom:

• The bathroom is located in the room.
• There is a bath tub combined with a shower.
• Hot water worked well, you have to turn on the electric boiler first.
• Toilet paper, soap, shampoo and towels were provided.

Location of the hotel:

• The location of the Panorama Deira Hotel is great. It’s only about 200 meters to the metro station “Union”. From there you can reach the sightseeing spots, like Burj Khalifa or the Creek very quickly. It’s only 4/5 stations to the Dubai Airport terminal 1 and 3.
• There are also some bus stops on the Union Square.
• Directions and maps shown on Expedia and many review-homepages are not right. Also Google maps shows the position for the hotel – so, be careful. But it’s really easy to find first time. When you arrive by Metro at “Union” take the exit to Al Rigga Road. Go about 100 meters streight ahead to the intersection (where an Islamic Sweets Shop is located). There you’ll find a big sign with the hotel name “Panorama Deira Hotel”.
• There are also some international restaurants, shopping malls and cafès close to the hotel.

Summary

The stay at Panorama Deira Hotel was OK. I liked the location in the old part of Dubai close to the metro station “Union”. It’s a good starting point for shightseeing. There you can find busy and interesting life around Union Square.

The staff, especially in the restaurant, were also very friendly. It is one of the cheapest hotels I could find in Dubai. Especially when you search for a single room, it’s not really easy to find a budget hotel.

Unfortunately it was a bit noisy there. This was one thing I didn’t like. I felt welcome and safe there.

I stayed there as backpacker from October 15 to October 16 in a single room. Here is my review:

Hostel facilities:

• Internet: Wi-Fi internet is in the room available and works well.
  The speed of the internet connection in the Happy Hostel is fast.
• They offer laundry service for € 4,00. I didn’t use this service, because I didn’t have dirty clothes.
• There is a washing-machine, where you can do your laundry (no self service).
• Check-out time is 10 AM.
• The staff at the reception are very friendly and helpful.
• There are lockers for the luggage, when you check out and want to leave your luggage in the hostel for a while. They put it in a cupboard and lock it. I tried it, it worked well.

Single room in Happy Hostel Vienna (click for more pictures)

Room-facilities:

I stayed at single room number 14A. The rooms of the hostel are located in several adapted flats in the house. This single room is located in “flat” number 14 in the first floor. I found the following facilities:

• You can lock the door with a key.
• Room has a balcony but you are not allowed to go out, because there is no handrail.
• In the room is a table with a chair, where you can work well.
• There a window in the room and it can be opened.
• There is a no net against mosquitos in front of the window, but it’s not really necessary here.
• No Aircondition.
• Smoking is in the room and in the hostel prohibited – Non smoker room.
• You find a TV-set with “normal” size screen and a lot of TV-programs in good quality.
  Among others I found TV-programms in German, English, Italien and Turkish Language.
• In the room it was very quiet. You can leave the window open during the night.
• They provide a towel.
• They keep the rooms really clean.
• Next to the room there is a community citchen with fridge, microwave, oven, coffee machine and water heater.

Bathroom:

• The bathroom is located next to the room on the same floor and you sahre it with other guests in the “flat”.
• There are a shower and a lavatory in.
• Hot water worked well.
• Toilet paper and a towel are provided.

Location of the Happy Hostel:

• The “Wien Westbahnhof” train station, subway (Westbahnhof) and Tram station (Westbahnhof/Gerstnerstraüe) ar not far away. You can reach them in less tan 5 minutes’ walk.
• Directions and maps shown on Hostelbookers are right. It is really easy to find it first time.
• Close to the hostel there are some restaurants and “Mariahilfer Straße” is one of the main shopping streets in Vienna. In the Westbahnhof train station there are also a lot of shops and fast food restaurants where you get cheap food. Try a “Würstelstand” in Vienna! The sausage booths are traditional and are open till deep in the night. The sausage booth at Subway Station “Gumpendorfer Straße (5 minutes’ walk) is opened 24 hours.

Summary

I enjoyed the stay in the Happy Hostel. I was only one night there and there were less guests (off season). So I don’t know if it’s a good place to meet people there and to get in touch with other backpackers. It’s definitely a very cheap possibility to stay as single traveler in a single room in Vienna. It’s always a problem there to get a single room for a moderate price. I felt welcome and safe there.

It’s also a cheap place for staying as single traveller, so I decided to stay in this hotel. I stayed there from October 5 to October 6 2010 in a single room. Here is my review:

Hotel facilities:

• Internet: Wi-Fi is provided in all rooms, but I didn’t use it. So I can not tell you anything about the speed and the connection-quality.
• Breakfast is included. There is a buffet with coffee, tee, bread, butter, yoghurt, jam, fruits and some other food.
• Check-in time is 2 PM, check-out time is 11 AM.
• The staff at the reception are friendly.

Single room nr. 235 in Hotel Kleinmünchen in Linz - Austria (click for more pictures)

In my single room (number 235) I found the following facilities:

• You can lock the door with a key.
• Room has no balcony.
• In the room is a table and there are two chairs. On one chair there is the tv-set.
• There is a window in the room and it can be opened.
• There is no net against mosquitos in front of the window, but in this area it is not really necessary.
• There is no aircondition in the room.
• Smoking is in the room not allowed – Non smoker room. But there are also smoker-rooms in the hotel.
• TV-set with normal screen and 19 TV-programs good/digital quality.
  There are only TV programs in German language.
• There is only one electrical outlet, usually used for the TV-set. So you have to decide if you want to wath TV or e.g. load your smartphone.
• In the room it was quiet. I slept with closed window, because there is a intersection in front of it.
• They keep the room clean.

Bathroom:

• In the room there is a shower. It is not a separate room.
• The toilet you share with other guests.
• Hot water worked well.
• Toilet paper, soap and towel are provided.

Location of the Hotel Kleinmünchen:

• Train station is not far away. To the train station it’s about 10 minutes by tram. There are two lines, number 1 and 2. The stop “Simonystrasse” is located in front of the hotel.
• To the city center it’s about 15 minutes by tram. You can use also number 1 and 2.
• Directions and maps shown on Expedia are right. It’s very easy to find it.
• There are a lot of free car parks behind the hotel.
• There are some markets with drinks and cheap food close to the hotel.
• There are some bars and restaurants around.

Summary

It was ok to stay in the Hotel Kleinmünchen. I stayed only one night. It’s a really good place to stay as single traveller, because the rooms are cheap. I felt welcome and safe there.

I stayed there for budget holidays from January 14 to January 20, 2012 in bungalow number 3A (yellow bungalow with sea view). Here is my review:

Bungalow facilities:

• If you want to enjoy island-life without high-tech, this is the right place for you. There is no Wi-Fi connection available. But it doesn’t matter. It’s great to relax. And if you want to check your e-mail or want to have a connection to the world wide web go to the restaurant in the Rock Sand Resort or White Sand Beach Resort. Both offer Wi-Fi (Rock Sand free, White Sand Beach you’ve to pay a fee).
• There is a restaurant directly in the small resort. They offer great thai-food and western-style food.
• They offer laundry service for 40 Baht/Kg. I used this service once. The laundry was clean.
• Check-out time is 12 AM.
• The staff at the reception are very friendly. Kiki is from Germany.

Maylamean bungalow - White Sand Beach at Koh Chang island

Room-facilities:

In my bungalow 3A (yellow bungalow) I found the following facilities:

• You can lock the door with a key.
• Room has a big terrace with seaview. Great!!!
• In the room there is a small board where you can put in your belongings.
• There is a window in the room and you can open it.
• There is a net against mosquitos in front of the window and the doors. There is also a mosqito-net over the bed. But there are some holes in, so you have to fix them first or you can also bring your own mosqitoe net.
• Fan is available, that is blowing directly on the bed.
• I think smoking is in the room not allowed.
• In the room it is very quiet. You can only hear the waves. You can leave the window open during the night.
• They keep the rooms clean.

Bathroom:

• The bathroom is located in the room.
• There is a shower directly in the bathroom, there is no separate cabin.
• There is no sink in the bathrom and you have to flush the toilet with a small bowl (thai-style).
• There is only cold water – but who cares on a tropical island?
• Toilet paper and a towel are provided.

Location of the Melamean bungalows:

• From the place, where the small busses and taxis stop in front of “Seven Eleven” it’s about 5 minutes’ walk along the beach to the Melamean bungalows. You have to walk through the restaurant at Rock Sand Resort to go there. If you have a trolley or a suitcase you sould use the path behind the bungalows at KC-Resort or take a taxi to White Sand Beach Resort. From there you can walk along the footpath.
• Within 5 minutes’ walk along the beach there is the main street with a lot of stores, bars and restaurants.
• Along the beache there are some restaurants and bars. You can enjoy the sunset there and they offer great thai- and international food. Try also the food directly at Maylamean!
• There are some steps from the beach up to the restaurant and the bungalows. If you are handycapped, I think it is not a good idea to stay there.

Summary

I really enjoyed the stay at Melamean bungalows! It’s one of the best places I have ever stayed. I enjoyed the location of the bungalow and the terrace-restaurant. There also a lot of friendly people. In the restaurant you get in contact with other guests very quickly. It’s really good place for fun. I felt really welcome and safe there.

If you want to stay at Maylamean bungalows you should simply go in and ask the staff, if there is a free bungalow. If you don’t like it choose another hostel.

I stayed there for holiday (with a budget like a backpacker is travelling with) from December 31, 2011 to January 14, 2012 in double-room number 5. Here is my review especially about that room:

Hotel/Guesthouse facilities:

• Internet: Wi-Fi internet is in the room number 5 and in the restaurant available. The signal in the room and on the balcony is sometimes bad, so it’s better to use it in the restaurant or on the terrace of the restaurant. The speed of the internet connection is at Rock Sand Resort average, compared to other hostels or hotels in Thailand. Sometimes it doesn’t work. But that’s not a problem only of the resort’s internet, that’s a problem on the whole island.
• At Rock Sand Resort they offer snorkeling-tours and boat trips. I’ve nothing booked.
• Breakfast is not included, but the restaurant offers a variety of western style breakfast.
• There is a restaurant in the resort that is opened all day long.
• They offer laundry service for 40 Baht/kg. I used this service. The laundry was clean.
• Check-out time is 12 AM.
• The staff at the reception and in the restaurant are friendly.

Room-facilities:

In my double-room (number 5) I found the following facilities:

• You can lock the door with a key.
• Room has a terrace where you can see the sea directly in front of you.
• In the room there are no desk or cupboard.
• There is a window in the room and it can be opened.
• There is a net without holes against mosquitos in front of the window.
• The bed is pretty high – smaller people have to jump a little bit to reach it.
• Fan is available and works well.
• There is a safe in the room – you can choose your own code, but the staff can also open it with a key.
• I am not sure, but I think smoking is in the room not allowed.
• There is no TV-set in the room.
• In the room it was sometimes a little bit noisy because of the waves and peopling passing in front of the window.
• They keep the rooms clean, change towels and make your bed once a week.

Bathroom:

• The bathroom is located in the room.
• There is a shower directy in the bathroom – there is no separate cabin.
• Hot water worked well.
• Toilet paper and towel are provided. If you run out of toilet paper you have to ask at the reception.
• From the sewers it was sometimes a little bit stinky. I’ve closed the one outlet on the floor in the bathroom, when I didn’t need it – so it was better.

Location of the Rock Sand Resort:

• From the place, where the small busses stop in front of “Seven Eleven” it’s about 5 minutes’ walk along the beach to the Rock Sand Resort. If you have a trolley or a suitcase you sould use the path behind the bungalows at KC-Resort. It’s easier to carry the luggage there.
• You can easily find the resort. The house is built on rocks directly on the beach. They have a big terrace that is built over the water.
• Within 5 minutes’ walk there is the main street with a lot of stores, bares and restaurants.
• There is a restaurant directly in the building. Along the beache there are some restaurants and bars. You can enjoy the sunset there and they offer great thai- and international food on the beach.

Summary

I enjoyed the stay in the Rock Sand Resort. The room number 5 was furnished basic but it was clean. One thing, I didn’t like, was the stench from the sewers. I could fix it a little bit, when I closed the outlet in the bathroom. I felt welcome and safe there.

Along the White Sand Beach there are some nice, small resorts with bungalows. Read also my reviews about Maylamean bungalows, that is next to Rock Sand Resort.

The “Hotel Residence” is located in the district of St. Georg about five minutes’ walk from Hamburg mainstation. I stayed there as backpacker with a friend from November 2 to November 6, 2011 in a double room (one big bed). Here is my review:

Hotel facilities:

• Internet: Wi-Fi internet is in the room available. You get a key for free at the reception. The speed of the internet connection is, compared to other hotels in Germany, average.
• Breakfast is included (toast, jam, butter, tee, coffee, sausages…)
• Check-out time is 11 AM.
• The staff at the reception are very friendly.
• The reception is 24 hours open.
• You have to leave the key at the reception when you leave the hotel.

• TV-set with small screen and a lot of TV-programs in good quality.
• In the room it was quiet. You look through the windows to the backyard of the hotel.
• They keep the rooms really clean, change towels and make your bed every day.

Bathroom:

• The bathroom is located in the room, you do not share it with other guests.
• There is a bath tub combined with a shower.
• Hot water works well. Sometimes it is a little bit tricky to mix the hot and the cold water.
• Toilet paper, soap and two towels per person are provided.

Location of the Hotel Residence:

• The train station Hamburg mainstation and the subyway station (U-Bahn) “Hauptbahnhof Süd” are very close. To the train station it’s about 5 minute’s walk.
• Directions and maps shown on Expedia are right – the arrow in Google Maps shows the hotel on the opposit side of the street. It is very easy to find the hotel first time. There is a big sign.
• There are a lot of international markets and shops around Steindamm, the street where the hotel is located. You will also find cheap food there.
• There are a lot of restaurants, bars and bistros around. You will find international food from German to Turkish and Indian food. Some restaurants are open all the night long.
• In the same street there are some sex-shops, a variety theatre and gambling houses. It’s not the “cleanest” street of Hamburg, but I didn’t feel uncomfortable there.
• The hotel is also located close to the gay area in Hamburg St. Georg. There are some gay bars, clubs, coffee shops and shops within 5 to 10 minute’s walk.

Summary

I enjoyed the stay in the Hotel Residence in Hamburg. It’s a really central place. From there you can reach the subway, train station and all of the tourist attractions of Hamburg very easily.

Well: The district of St. Georg is a little bit dirty – but I didn’t feel afraid there any time. Especially in the hotel I felt very safe and really welcome.

I like to stay there in a holiday flat. It’s cheap and you are absolutely independent. The last times, when I have been in Berlin, I stayed in the 1234 Holiday flat/Ferienwohnung in Berlin-Schöneberg. It’s a very quiet place to stay – and a good position for visiting the city. And, if you are interested in, it’s less than 10 minutes’ walk to the gay area around Motzstraße and Fuggerstraße.

Following I write about my experiences in staying at “1234Holiday Flat” in Berlin Schöneberg. I stayed there (flat 7a) last time with a friend from June 10 to June 14, 2011. Here is my review:

Holiday flat facilities:

• Internet: I didn’t have a laptop with me, so I don’t know if Wi-Fi works well. On the homepage it says, that they offer free Wi-Fi for their guests.
• The staff are very friendly, you get your key from a person directly in the house. You also get a second key, if you need. You have to pay for the flat when you arrive there.

Flat-facilities:

In our holiday flat (number 7a) I found the following facilities:

• You can lock the door of the flat with a key.
• Flat has a balcony.
• There are a kitchen, a combined living- and sleeping room and a bathroom.
• In the living- and sleeping room there are a couch, a table with two chairs and a big couch.
• On the balcony there are a table and chairs.
• In the kitchen we found everything we needed, e.g. refrigerator, microwave, plates and other kitchen facilities.
• There are some windows in the flat and they can be opened.
• There is no air condition in the flat, but a fan is available and worked well.
• I am not sure, but I think smoking is in the flat not allowed.
• TV-set with big screen and a lot of TV-programs in digital quality.
  Most of the TV-programs are in German language, but you can find a news channel in English and other languages.
• In the flat it was very quiet. You can leave the window open during the night.
• They keep the flat really clean but they don’t change towels and make your bed every day.

Bathroom:

• The bathroom is located in the flat, you don’t share it with other guests.
• There is a shower combined with a bath tub.
• Hot water worked well.
• Toilet paper, soap and towel are provided.

Location of the holiday flat:

• The holiday flat is located in Berlin Schöneberg at the corner Barbarossa Street/Landshuter Street.
• There are three subway-stations very close to the holiday flat. To the subway-stations “Viktoria-Luise-Platz” (U4), “Bayerischer Platz” (U4) and “Güntzelstraße” (U9) it’s about 5 minutes’ walk. From there you have excellent connections to the different airports and train stations in Berlin.
• It’s very easy to find it first time when you come from Bayerischer Platz or Viktoria-Luise-Platz. It’s a yellow building and there is a sign in front of it.
• To Kurfürstendamm and KADEWE shopping center it’s about 10 minutes’ walk.
• To the gay area with bars and clubs of Berlin Schöneberg (Motzstraße, Fuggerstraße, Martin-Luther-Straße,…) it’s less than 10 minutes’ walk.
• There are also some shops with drinks and food close to the holiday flat.
• There are some bars and restaurants around, especially into direction of Motzstraße and Victoria Luise Platz. One special restaurant and bar you should visit is “Schöneberger Weltlaterne” in Motzstraße. They have great food, the owner is singing old german songs and sometimes there is also a piano player.

Summary

I enjoyed the stay in the 1234 holiday flats. It’s a really good starting point for visiting the sights of Berlin. It’s located in a quiet street close to the gay area of Berlin Schöneberg. Compared to other hostels and hotels it’s a cheap place to stay in Berlin. I felt really welcome and safe there.
